TITLE:
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator - Class I or Class II DEPARTMENT:
Wastewater Treatment Plant, Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority JOB
Summary:
This position is responsible for participating in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
Incumbents in this position may be designated as Class II Operator or Class I Operator.
MAJOR DUTIES:
o Maintains a continuous and efficient plant performance to ensure a safe and clean effluent; collects daily samples; runs lab tests; inspects and backwashes lift station and transfer pumps daily; runs process controls and records results; adds chemicals; maintains accurate records of all areas of operations.
o Operates sludge belt press; monitors belt speed, alignment, and tension; adjusts polymer mixing levels; controls sludge wasting amounts; completes wash down and maintenance of equipment.
o Inspects, maintains, and operates satellite treatment plants.
o Answers telephone and provides customer service; responds to service calls; removes blockages and repairs broken lines.
o Inspects off-site lift stations.
o Assists in building and grounds maintenance.
o Troubleshoots equipment and makes repairs; installs new equipment.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
o Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operating principles, practices, and equipment.
o Knowledge of chemical reactions.
o Knowledge of laboratory and field sampling techniques.
o Knowledge of general maintenance practices.
o Knowledge of relevant state and federal guidelines.
o Knowledge of safety practices and protocols.
o Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
o Skill in the use of computers and job related software programs.
o Skill in the use of hand tools.
o Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The Wastewater Operations Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions.
The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors.
The employee may be exposed to noise, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather.
