Summary:
Hostler position interacts with both transportation and warehouse departments in order to accomplish daily needs related to the preparation of equipment needed for loading and dispatching
Responsibilities:
Complete trailer sanitation prior to reloading, preparation disposal of trash, sweeping, pressure washing, etc.
Proper handling of all return merchandise, disposal of damage, logging and recording all items into or out of stock. Placement of vendor board items, cross reference to return overage sheet and returned R/As.
Accountability and storage for all loadbars and bulkheads. Placement of handtrucks on particular routes. Maintain and repair reasonable damage to loadbars and handtrucks. Notify management of outside sourcing for repairs not capable at center. Ensure all doors have locks on trailers prior to being relieved or leaving for the shift.
Moving equipment in and around the yard for loading and unloading purposes. Hooking and unhooking equipment prior to daily dispatch. Notification to management for repairs or possible problems that arise during the shift. Storing equipment in a safe area prior to dispatch, to minimize the possible damage through outside vendors utilitizing the yard.
Daily inspections to incoming equipment, minimizing unreported damage done overnight at the dock or while on route. Inventory of equipment necessary to and related to the operation of transportation.
Sanitation and cleaning of the building exterior, primarily between the loading doors and apron and by the will call door and dumpster area.
Occasionally make trips to service terminals for refueling and repairs when necessary. Maintain periodic maintenance and calibration with Xata units.
Picking up local backhauls when necessary, or the delivery to vendors for pallets.
In emergency situations, run local specials and routes as needed. When injury or late illness occurs, it may be necessary to be available for coverage.
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent plus 1 year tractor/trailer experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is medium to heavy in nature. Half the day is spent driving a tractor/trailer unit, the other half standing to wash/clean trailers. Must be able to climb into trailer, lift 50 lb. boxes frequently, lift up to 75 lb. boxes occasionally, and move product on the 2-wheeler. Must be able to communicate clearly with customers.
MENTAL/VISUAL DEMANDS Must be able to read at a distance close to the eyes, and at arms length, with or without correction. Driving requires distance vision. Constant alertness while driving.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED 3 axle tractor, 46' trailer, Xata, 2 wheeler/dolly. .
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES Class A Drivers license
